We know it can be a worrying and stressful time when you are caring for an unwell child.
As well as the support available from our staff across all our surgeries we have put together some helpful information to help you look after an unwell child.
Advice for common conditions
Firstly here is some excellent quality information about dealing with many common childhood conditions.
This information has been put together by healthcare professionals and parents/carers, it is designed to be used by parents/carers and healthcare professionals. This means it has excellent quality and regularly undated information to make sure you have all the information needed to care for an unwell child.
Most importantly it gives you information about when your child may need to see a healthcare professional, and how to seek the most appropriate care.
Please follow the links for information on common childhood conditions:
We recommend downloading the HANDi Paediatric App to all parents and carers. The HANDi Paediatric app gives up-to-date advice about common childhood illnesses and how to treat them.
Developed by NHS organisations in Devon, the HANDi Paediatric app is available to download for free onto any Apple or Android smartphone or tablet.
The app has been designed to help reduce the number of children and young people who visit A&E, but need no treatment.
Giving parents more confidence in dealing with minor conditions
We hope that the information you can find from both the website links and the APP give you the information you need to feel confident in looking after an unwell child. We know most people don’t want to take a child to A&E unless it’s absolutely necessary – but often they end up there because they are not sure what else to do.
The leaflets and the App give excellent guidance on where an unwell child can be safely cared for and gives excellent information on how to manage common conditions at home.
It also helps explain when you do need to seek medical help for an unwell child and the best way to do this.
